<p>So I was in my car yesterday driving to the gym when once again that annoying notification light showed up on my dashboard. And this wasn&#8217;t the first time it had happened either. It has been showing up for a few weeks now.</p>
<p>So a little while back I called the dealership and asked them what to do. They told me to bring it in. However, the next day after speaking to them, the light didn&#8217;t show up again. Go figure.</p>
<p>Then, as my car continued to sit out in the cold snowy winter weather that damn notification light started up again.</p>
<p>And since I&#8217;m heading to Toronto today to see my accountant, I&#8217;ll probably kill 2 birds with one stone and take the car in to the dealership see what the fuss is all about.</p>
<p>Now I know I&#8217;m not an auto-mechanic and you&#8217;re not reading my emails for advice on cars but there is a point to my story&#8230;</p>
<p>My car was telling me that something was wrong.</p>
<p>I simply ignored it because I thought it was a faulty &#8220;bug&#8221; since my car continued to drive fine.</p>
<p>But how often have YOU done this in your life? Not with your car but with your health?</p>
<p>Have you ever looked in the mirror and said&#8230;</p>
<p>&#8220;Damn, I&#8217;m fat! Where did all the extra weight come from. I need to do something about this now!&#8221;</p>
<p>OR&#8230;</p>
<p>&#8220;Why is my energy so low? Why am I so tired in the morning?&#8221;</p>
<p>And that spurred you into initial action. You may have seen some initial weight loss and then took your foot off your gas pedal as that &#8220;pain&#8221; was a little less. You were now more comfortable with your body than you were before.</p>
<p>But then you slipped back into your old routine. And then after a few more weeks of (again) feeling unsatisfied with yourself you kicked yourself in the butt and got yourself back in gear.</p>
<p>Does this sound familiar?</p>
<p>The point I&#8217;m trying to make is that your body is communicating with you all the time. Disease is simply your body&#8217;s WARNING (notification light) that something is not right inside. And medication or quick-fix miracles are not going to solve your problems.</p>
<p>You need to get to the root of the problem, deal with it, and move on.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s why I&#8217;ll be taking my car in to get serviced today and&#8230;</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re not performing as well as you know you can, then I&#8217;d recommend you do the same.</p>
<p>Well, not take your car in but&#8230;</p>
<p>Take yourself into the gym, to the nutritionist or naturopath, or get started with any of our fitness and nutrition programs to help you live your healthiest and fittest life ever.</p>
<p>Remember, your body works perfectly fine even when it doesn&#8217;t seem to. It&#8217;s simply telling you something. You just have to listen and find out what it&#8217;s trying to tell you.</p>
<p>So this week, try to tune into your body a little more and see if everything&#8217;s cool.</p>
<p>If not, promise yourself (and me) that you&#8217;ll take the appropriate action.</p>
<p>It might be scary, it might uncomfortable, but if you deal with it NOW it won&#8217;t have a chance to snowball out-of-control down the road!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Alright, so you guys now know that my 3-month <a href="http://www.yurielkaim.com/642/my-physique-goal-for-2011/" target="_blank">physique goal for 2011</a> is to pack on 20 lbs of rock solid muscle at less than 10% body fat.</p>
<p>Thanks for all the encouraging comments and for your added accountability. Many of you might be wondering how on earth I&#8217;m going to accomplish this goal, especially considering the arrival of our new baby and living in a new town with our house being renovated for the next month.</p>
<p>Well today, I want to share my powerful secret to achieving any goal. Because of this &#8220;secret&#8221; I&#8217;ve been able to achieve some truly amazing things in my life, including playing professional soccer, re-growing my hair after losing it , and living the life of my dreams.</p>
<p>In my mind, building my body is no different. It is simply a new challenge. And regardless of what lies ahead, I know I will realize my goal. In fact, I&#8217;ve already achieved it in my mind. I can already &#8220;see&#8221; my ideal body. This same body has been on my vision board for the past 2 years &#8211; now, finally I have the desire to create it.</p>

<p>In today’s fast-paced society we’re bombarded by a thousand different things at once. As such, it&#8217;s often difficult to get anything done. And the same goes for your workouts.</p>
<p>I’ll explain what I mean in just a second but let me first clarify why focus – not multi-tasking – needs to be your modus operandi if you want to reach your fitness goals.</p>
<p>For some reason, we’ve been told that multi-tasking is good and that if we can juggle several “plates” at once, then we’ll get more done. But the reality is that mulit-tasking can take a toll on your brain &#8211; and your results.</p>
<p>In a study of 14 participants who underwent fMRI, researchers at Vanderbilt University found that when people try to juggle two tasks at once, a bottleneck occurs in information processing. The posterior lateral prefrontal cortex, a part of the brain that is involved in decision making, delayed one task until the other was complete.</p>
<p>Another study, by researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, involved 14 participants (mean age 26) who were asked to learn a task under two conditions. They learned one task without any distractions. Then they learned another task while listening to, and trying to count, a series of beeps. Not surprisingly, their ability to recall how to do the task later on was much better when they learned it without distraction.</p>
<p>Preliminary research also suggests that maintaining focus, on the other hand, might help build brain tissue. Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital conducted MRI studies of people who regularly practice meditation, and found that compared with controls, they had more gray matter (brain cells) in areas associated with attention and sensory processing.</p>
<h3>Okay, so what does all this have to do with you achieving your health and fitness goals?</h3>
<p>Well, everything really!</p>
<p>Let me give you an example of a typical person working out in the gym. They show up with no plan. Wander around trying to improvise their workout as they go. Become distracted by talking to other people, reading a magazine, or watching TV – remember we’re still in the gym here.</p>
<p>The result – a sub-par workout. And if this continues&#8230;.sub-par results!</p>
<p>You see, when most people go workout they don’t have a specific workout that they’re going to follow. So they do a little bit of everything. Their workout is not focused – it is scattered.</p>
<p>As a result, they don’t achieve much other than being able to brag to their friends that they “went to the gym”.</p>
<p>I don’t know about you…</p>
<p>But for me, results speak louder than words any day of the week.</p>
<p>And, in order to get results, you need to be focused – not only on your ultimate goal – but also on the process that will take you there.</p>
<p>Focus is one of the qualities that will help you achieve tremendous health and fitness success.</p>
<p>In fact, it’s one of the greatest qualities of the <a href="http://www.fitterthanthepros.com">world’s top fitness pros</a>.</p>
<p>If it works for them, it can work for you too!</p>

<p>Here a few practical tips for fostering focus, even in distracting environments such as the gym or your home (if that’s where you workout):</p>
<p>1. Turn off the cell phone or e-mail</p>
<p>2. Review your goals before working out.</p>
<p>3. Write down your workout plan before you even begin to workout.</p>
<p>4. Visualize yourself going through your workout successfully.</p>
<p>5. Stay in the moment. Don’t allow your mind to drift about what you need to do after your workouts. Just enjoy the process.</p>
