How to Develop a Success Mindset

I just got back in from a dog walk on a warm summer’s night. On my walk I was listening to an interview that Tony Robbins did with the late coach John Wooden. If you don’t know who Coach Wooden is – he’s basically the most successful basketball coach in NCAA history winning an incredible 10 NCAA championships in 12 years as the head coach of UCLA!

Talk about success!

So after listening to the interview, I thought it was time to put together this post and share yet another “success” video with you.

As you can tell, the theme this week has been on mindset, success, and achieving your goals.

The neat part about this stuff is that it doesn’t matter what your goals are – everyone can benefit from the “fundamentals”. And since I’m a big believer that what goes on “inside” eventually happens “outside”, it’s important to spend the time to develop who you are as a person.

The more you learn about yourself and develop yourself, the easier it will be to reach and maintain your health and fitness goals.

If you don’t believe me just have a look at the hundreds of comments on the previous blog posts this week where many of you have talked about lacking motivation, feeling frustrated, not having time, and many other challenges that have stood in your way of your success.

Now, I completely understand that life can get crazy, making it tough to follow through on what you start.

But I’m also here – as your coach – to tell you that that’s not good enough (at least in most cases)!

I believe that with proper planning, support, and the right tools you can accomplish anything – NO MATTER WHAT!

But you need to start by developing a success mindset. And, in today’s video I show you how to start doing just that.

I’ll also reveal many things that separate the most successful people in the world from everyone else.

I highly recommend you get out a note pad and a pen and take a few notes. I know you’ll be moved!

Enjoy!

Ok, comment time…

What are some “success habits” that you’ve noticed in yourself and other successful people? What habits DO YOU need to develop to reach your goals?

  1. Consistancy! Keep trying even when you don’t feel like it (and you’ll probably find you do better than you think you will).

  2. What has helped me lately is trying to surround myself with role models. I got this idea from Jon Benson. I don’t have any role models in my direct environment, so I started signing up to get email from various role models like yourself Yuri. That way, when I get online I’m bombarded with info. from successful people and it makes it easier to stay on track.

  3. Something what I just don’t get is that I see most of the other people in the gym not working out hard at all, not eating good and not even have a training routine…

Although they seem to put on muscles much faster than me while I’ve got a few habits to put on muscles.

    - Eat about 200 – 400kcals above maintaince all healthy foods, no junk.
    - Train 4 days a weak, focusing on the compound movements.
    - Giving everything I’ve got while training.
    - Being consistant.
    - Thinking about it when I go to sleep and wake up.
    - Watching my progression, taking pictures, holding a traininglog.
    - Reading new and interesting stuff about training, nutrition,…

  4. I have just realized the way I get a lot of things done is by making a list and crossing things off my list as I do them. It PREPARES me to get things done and I IMPLEMENT what it takes to accomplish these things. Why not put my work outs and list the foods I need to purchase to accomplish my health goals??? What a novel idea!! I feel like I have broken through a barrier in life and you, Yuri have helped me to see this simple idea. Put my daily goals on my daily To Do List!!

  5. I think a lot of success in any arena be it work, financial, health or fitness starts with personal accountability. A lot of people believe they are simply entitled to things in life without having to work for it or put in their time or sweat equity. My greatest successes have been when I have set and WRITTEN down my goals both short and long term. You also can’t wait for someone else to make it happen for you. I have worked for the same organization for 19 years and have always wanted to become a Consultant. I would talk about it to people at the regional level and let myself get derailed by someone locally. Last year, I decided I wanted that position and made a call to our head office and discussed my goal with someone at a senior level. As a result of this conversation, my organization developed an intership program for me, something they had never done before, and within 6 months, I was promoted to the position of Consultant. This came with a very nice pay increase. So I would say whether it’s work or health/fitness, any success starts with your own personal accountability.

    • I talk about accountability alot at work. There are times when I get really frustrated about the lack of personal accountability for error, poor judgement, lack of knowledge etc. As well, my world is full of people who think the world owns them something without lifting a finger, being a contributor in their life. Which of course is very selfish and ignorant on their part. Having said all, your words SCREAMED at me “personal accountability”…but with oneself in finance, health and fitness. I had really never applied it to those things.

You are absolutely right! Personal accountability to oneself for work, financial, health or fitness…is the first step to acquiring the goals we want and need to set. And I hope you don’t mind but I printed off your words and will keep them as my motivator.

  10. I set a long range plan that is broken down into shorter (realistic) goals. I keep the end in mind and allow that I will get occasionally sidetracked (just a blip … don’t get discouraged … keep going).
