The Secret to Losing Love Handles – “Ask Yuri” Episode #3

How to lose love handles?

This is probably the most popular question people have asked me.

Most of us want to lose belly fat and sculpt a lean and sexy stomach, right? Well, the problem is that most of us are going about it the wrong way. Even one of my best friends, whom I’ve told otherwise numerous times, still does hundreds and hundreds of sit-ups and ab crunches every single day.

When it comes to abdominal training and losing love handles (and belly fat) what we’re really dealing with is a paradigm shift. A shift in how you think about training your body.

Along these lines, I also recently received the following question:

“Hi Yuri, I’m Clara and I’m fifteen.

I have a very weird body I would say. I don’t have any belly fat really, small waist. However I have major love handles! Especially viewing me from behind they are larger.

My thighs aren’t that great either but their not as bad. I don’t want to seem like I am making excuses because I don’t think I exercise enough and eat right all the time. But I have under-active thyroid and Anemia. Anemia of course is an iron-deficiancy and makes me dizzy and not have very much energy. Under-active thyroid means my thyroid gland is underactive, so it’s not doing what it should, and one of the major syptoms is weight-gain. Both are on medication now.

I am so sick of having love-handles, I honestly think about them 24/7, I can’t find any shirt I like on me because they all look bad! Summer is coming soon, and I used to love summer, now I am dreading it. I really need help, I am done having them. Could you give me some advice please? Thank-you so much.”

So in this episode of “Ask Yuri”, I’m going to answer this question.

Watch and enjoy!

  1. Hi Yuri,

Thank you for your informative videos and tips. I really appreciate them.

I’m in my late twenties and have been clinically diagnosed with endometriosis this year. I am not on any hormones/birth control or painkillers/NSAIDs, since I react severely to them.

My endometriosis is likely in my digestive system/bowel and pelvis. It affects me systemically and causes blood in my stool a week before my period (I have been checked for colitis and crohns). Other than that I have IBS, bloating, possible infertility, food and chemical intolerances, candida, low immunity, fatigue, feel weak/cold, joint pain, chronic pain, PMS, anxiety, skin issues, etc.

I avoid/intolerant to: dairy, soda, wheat, gluten, soy, caffeine, alcohol, meat. I crave carbs everyday (potato/tortilla chips) which I am not always able to resist. This is usually when I get anxious.

My diet is plant based with lots of organic salad, green veggies, fruit, lemon, probiotics, distilled water. I eat the following a few times to several times a month: chocolate, beans, quinoa, nuts/seeds, avocado organic eggs, salmon. I blend or juice everyday. I try to make my own food and limit/avoid canned food or eating out.

I try to combine my food carefully. My weight is normal for my height but I do eat and snack a lot especially at night. I leave an hour or two after eating before going to sleep.

For pain management, I go to acupuncture one to two times a month, meditate, try to be positive and let go, use my infrared mat for heat and sweating, walk outside when it’s sunny.

My exercise is limited to walking and stretching when I am able to (two to three times a week), since I am often in pain and have difficulty moving/walking/lifting stuff. There are times in my cycle where I am always dizzy and unstable on my feet or I have to rest. I used to do yoga and jog but I am unable to now.

What other things can I do to help my condition? I am told by my health practitioners that I need to heal my stomach first so I can absorb nutrients better. Then once that’s done, my liver can help clear the excess estrogen in my system.

I have been eating a healthier diet for the past six months and it’s helped my IBS/digestive issues. But it hasn’t yet made an impact on my endometriosis.

Thank you for your help and insight.

    • Wanda, keep doing what you’re doing. It will take some time to get better. Lessening the estrogen load on your body will be important (ie. fewer soy products, etc…) and perhaps even doing a mild a cleanse (through foods) will help both your digestive tract and liver get things in order.
