Best Movie of the Year?

January 21 23 Comments Category: Random Stuff

The other night, Amy and I went to the theatre for our usual “Tuesday night movie night”.

We decided to set aside 3 hours and watch a movie that has received great praise and has also intrigued me for some time – Avatar.

So after being absolutely blown away by this incredible James Cameron movie, I decided to put together this quick little video to share my insights from this film and what I think we can learn from it.

Check it out here:

Feel free to leave a comment if you’ve seen it as well. I’d love to hear what you thought of it.

  2. Avatar is for dirty hippies. I don’t like how they portray the military as bad.

  4. Have not seen this movie yet BUT after listening to your opinion I am very intrigued to go and see it. I do know it won a Golden Globe Award. I am always glad when feel good and thought provoking movies are produced.

  6. I agree with Yuri…it’s worth the time, and it’s worth seeing on the “big screen” as well. In this age of convenience, we need to be reminded occasionally to be respectful of our environment and the people and objects in it. This also rings true for how we treat our bodies. Thanks, Yuri.

  7. I have not watched it yet, but I will soon. We also plan to buy it on blue ray. Lot of people are have depression after watching it, because our world is not as perfect as Avatar. Everything in moderation right. Yuri I want to thank you for a great product, I have been promoting it at Http://www.finallyhowtoloseweight.com

  8. I think its more than just the best movie of the year. It is a unique bold movie that bring about some truths that will make some people uncomfortable. We need to be more sensitive to the gentle energy impulses of life. If we were at all sensitive to these energy we would not destroy our own planet and our own bodies. I am not a hippy, far from it, but I know what “not listening” to your body can do.
I also believe that no war can do any good. Everybody loose and the people that make the decisions to go to war are never the ones in the front line firing the riffles! We must start listening to each other and to our bodies. There is a great sea of knowledge available to us and we ignore and destroy it!
I like this movie, its got balls!

  9. I was totally BLOWN away!!! Forget the story for a moment, this is a movie going experience at the next level. If for no other reason go see it just for the effects. That being said, the many underlying messages are indeed timeless and more necessary, I believe, than ever. This is a film of many levels that speaks to the senses and much as the spirit if you can find the time to watch it…we could all benefit from this film.

  10. This movie have great effects. As for “ideas”, it is basically on the same intellectual level as any cartoon produced by HAMAS. The real prototypes of Navi are basically taliban, Iraqi insurgents etc. Somehow Cameron forgot to show them deliberately slaughtering civilians, raping girls who dare to attend universities, cutting westerners heads on camera etc etc all being their direct policy, in other words doing all the stuff that comes with being a violent savage.

As for enviromentalism cult, any time you start worship something inanimate, something animate will have to be sacrificed. Like the majority of African children who died from
malaria due to DDT ban lobbied and supported by rich western enviromentalists. But then again Caneron said he believes in eco-terrorism, so he hardly have any problem with this.

  12. I think there was so much more to this movie than the connections you refer to. It addresses very directly how we are destroying our environment and how we killed our ‘own Mother Earth’. It addresses how specific countries (ie., the US) just march into the countries of others, kill everything in their way and take what they want. Iraq springs to mind. But the movie also gave me an incredible sense of peace through the photography. Avatar is an absolute work of art.

  13. Someone needs to make prescription 3D glasses. We aren’t going to see Avatar because it would be a waste of money for my husband who cannot wear contact lenses and can never get 3D glasses to sync properly with his prescription glasses. As a loyal wife, I’m foregoing the movie as well since he is unable to enjoy it.

  15. I saw the movie with my husband and picked out every environmental gobbly-gook portrayed in the movie. This was just another subtle way to influence people into believing the earth is dying and we need to take extreme steps to “save it”. I also did not like how they portrayed the military. There are checks and balances in the military, it’s not a renegade commander run amok! The special effects were good, so it made it entertaining, but I get totally turned off watching movies that promote agendas in ways that make it seem true.

  16. Wow! Interesting comments from you folks. What’s this about worshiping nature? How about just being aware of the fact that we are a part of this same nature and we need to respect it? Where do we get our food? Maybe those people don’t realize we get it from the EARTH and this same food nurishes our bodies and gives us energy? In fact it is the only thing that really does. There is no worship – only respect.
As for the military, yes, there sure are some who are power hungry and control hungry. They are few and far between. Most in the military, I would assume, are intent on finding peace for our earth. My grandson is, I know for a fact!
Love the movie – and thanks for bringing out your spiritual insights for us to appreciate!

  17. Best movie ever!! I loved the message of how everything is connected in some way. I believe it’s the same way on earth as well. The animation, color, story line, intensity etc.. was all simply amazing. It stayed with me for a long time after I watched it and would love to see it again.

  18. Hi Yuri,

Thank you for shareing your thoughts about the movie “Avitar”. The plot very closely parralels the history of the United States as they settled the West. The US government committed geniside on the Native Americans, calling it their “Manifest Destiny”. They believed that, “might makes right”.

Some citizens wanted to coexist peacefully amoung the natives, but greed and fear lead others to demonize the native culture. It was Europeans who first practiced scalping on Native Americans. They slaughtered the whole buffalo population, leaving the natives to starve to death. Custer’s soldiers killed every man, woman, and child, leaving none alive.

The natives loved and respected the land and nature without owning it. They thanked the animals who gave it’s life for theirs. They tread lightly on the land because their spirit and survival depended on it, as does ours. I hope to learn form my country’s past mistakes. Thank you, Yuri and Amy, for teaching me a more healthyful and narural lifestyle.

  19. @Sparrow–I am almost sure you won’t get to read this, but I saw Avatar in the regular theater with my brother. We decided to forgo the 3-D to save a buck or two, and we still thought it was really incredible. You and your spouse will be fine without the three-dimensional effects–the regular digital ones are still worth seeing!
